Some pictures from this years Soundwalk. Only in its second year, it's been a great success for the East Village. It is a group show of different art installations that use sound. Many installations had mics that recorded ambient sound and compiled it to create strange new environmental sounds.

Shea and Kamraan, two of the organizers go over the map the morning of Soundwalk.

Frauke and her assistant prepare an installation by Nina Waisman by spreading a field of shredded newspapers to surround the piece. It took a total of 40 hours to shred the newsapaper for the piece.

An artist sets up in the Dome room of the Lafayette.

A Soundwalk visitor fishes for sound in a vibrating shopping cart.

A theater group performs a piece about a dreamer using the dreams of the surrounding audience.

Been shooting some slide film....I've probably only shot about 10 rolls of slide ever. I really love the poppy colors and can see why people rave about it so much...

Some selects from the third set of shooting. I spent the weekend out in Ventura County photographing 3 families.

July 25, 2005

Some recent prints....the first three are all from a pho restuarant on the corner of MLK and Anaheim. I was shooting pics for a small sample piece and needed a Vietnamese/Cambodian business owner. The three photos were shot within a span of 10 minutes, lit just by the large front window.

Well...I've been really busy. The shooting for Conduit is going well. I've done two days of shooting for them and we're scheduling some more. This next weekend, I'll be staying overnight with a family to try to capture more intimate moments.

I've acquired a bit of equipment the last few weeks. 2 softboxes. A Pelican case for my Nikons. A 85mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4, 28mm 2.0 and a 35-70mm 2.8 for the Nikons. All the lenses with the exception of the zoom are manual focus lenses. The 85mm 1.4 is amazingly sharp wide open. The 50mm 1.4 is a little soft and the 28mm 2.0 seems good through its entire aperture range.

Just finished a darkroom session...will post in the morning....

Got the film back from the photoshoot. I'm pretty happy with the results. Here are some of my faves.

8 rolls of film and about $200 later, I've fine tuned and have gotten close to that high key look i'm looking for.

Haven't updated in awhile, but I've been shooting like crazy. This week I've been testing color film for a pretty big photo job. I'm shooting images for a non-profit's calendar and annual report. They want something documentary style and they want it in color. I'm fine tuning my lighting and color balancing, things which don't come into play with black and white.

I made some prints in the darkroom last night. A few more on the series on my brother. These images were shot on the morning we dropped him off at the airport to go back to Iraq.

Heartbreaking.

The other images is stuff I printed because it was too depressing to print anything else from that sereies.
